Sarah Adams, the author of this This I Believe essay, finds her view driven by how she treats the delivery man. She argues that it is a practice in humility. When she is driving and thinks that she owns the road, she sees a pizza delivery dude and realizes that its ok to let others go on ahead. Its alright to let someone pass by unbothered. She also makes the comment that this can be a practice in empathy. Some people need to take jobs just because “some money is better than none”. They are just trying to get by. We need to realize that not everyone is as fortunate as us. Being cool to the delivery dude also helps us remember to honor hard work and practice equality. We need to recognize that we are not better than the man showing up with your food to turn a buck. He works hard to.

Sarah writes with a unique tone that is knowledgable yet playfull. The title of the piece shows that she likes to keep her writing understandable to everyone. When she writes “They never took over a company and, as CEO, artificially inflated the value of the stock and cashed out their own shares, bringing the company to the brink of bankruptcy, resulting in 20,000 people losing their jobs while the CEO builds a home the size of a luxury hotel”, she shows that she is knowledgable eno0ugh to keep her writing interesting. I like the laid back diction that she uses. It makes it seem like a person is telling you the story, not a paper being read.

I never realized how many ways we can apply being cool to the pizza delivery dude to life. This is an intersting essay from the sounds of it. Maybe next time I see a pizza delivery car, I will think of hopw everyone works hard and that I don’t own the road.

I have seen this article a lot when I go onto thisibelieve.org but I have never bothered to read it. The essay seems like a good example of taking a simple idea and expanding on it. I might have to actually read it now.

This This I Believe sounds pretty interesting. It’s a great idea to make life easier for those who are less fortunet.
